Barbara Stokes: A Success in Disaster Relief

No one wants to be in the business of disaster relief. Natural disasters signify the misery of fellow human beings. However, someone has to be in the business of helping those affected when natural disasters occur. Home improvement stores, generator manufacturers and companies that produce batteries must step up when natural disasters strike. Who steps up when disaster victims are temporarily – or even permanently – displaced from their homes? Enter Barbara Stokes, CEO of Green Structures Homes of Alabama, LLC. Founded in 2008, GSH is a disaster relief contractor based in Huntsville, Alabama. Visit her Linkedin profile to know more.

Stokes, a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, focused her formal studies on physics and biomedical engineering. Since graduating, she has been employed by Pisces Corporation and The Boeing Company. Stokes now leads GSH in supplying reliable, high quality structures to the housing industry.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has confidence in Stokes and GSH. The company has been contracted to provide Manufactured Housing Units (MHU) for FEMA since 2012. Recently, FEMA awarded GSH a $28.5 contract to build modular homes in support of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Creating jobs in eight states, the FEMA/GSH contract is a boon, directly and indirectly, for job seekers and local businesses. In addition to government contracts, Barbara Stokes’s LinkedIn profile states that GSH offers “in-house project management leadership and independent engineering with over 30 years in the overall planning, foundation, development, installation, and inspection of commercial and residential structures.” Visit to know more about Barbara Stokes.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Barbara Stokes maintains a healthy work/life balance as an avid volunteer in her community. Her husband and business partner, Scott, raise three kids as they manage their flourishing company.
