Good news for Sonequa Martin-Green: she’s going to be playing “Number One,” the protagonist of the new Star Trek: Discovery series. However, fans wonder if this is bad news for her Walking Dead character Sasha Williams—can the actress realistically maintain roles in both shows at once?
“Sonequa Martin-Green can do anything. I’ve seen her battle a horde of walkers [zombies] this year while simultaneously battling a stomach flu that would have had most people crying in the dirt,” he quipped. “She can fulfill the duties of a Lieutenant Commander on a Constitution-class starship whilst battling walkers, Saviors, and whatever gets in Sasha’s way.”
He notes that he has had to work around actors’ schedules before without resorting to killing their characters off, such as with Corey Hawkins, who plays Heath in the recent seasons while also starring in 24: Legacy.
Still, The Walking Dead is a show where just about any character can die, so Sasha’s fans should never be too sure of her safety.
Star Trek: Discovery comes after the franchise has long been dormant on television, though the most recent reboot movies have been successful. It will air on CBS All Access, a video-on-demand streaming service. Unusually, Martin-Green’s character is the protagonist but not the captain of the titular ship.
The Walking Dead‘s seventh season resumes on AMC February 12, 2017.
